FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHY DO YOU USE A ONE PAGE SITE?
I would’t normally but I wanted to show you how much information can be fitted to a single page site. It’s an inexpensive way for you to get started at £49-00. I wanted to prove to you that even with a low investment you can do business.
CAN PAGES BE ADDED?
Yes. I charge £20 a page. I also do specials, for instance a five page site is priced at only £99-00.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CREATE THE SITE?
If you have a clear idea as to what you want, then it can be done and uploaded within 48 hours. If you need help planning it then it can take a bit longer. Also if you require the five page site it could take a week to complete after the planning has been done. I will help you to plan the site for free. It's my job.
WHY ARE YOU SO INEXPENSIVE?
I charge a fair price. I have a small business with very few overheads. I am happy to work at my current rate. My low rates have been known to put people off but it shouldn't because you see the design before you pay. This means zero risk. If the project you are planning cannot be done for the prices stated then I will let you know beforehand. There will never be any financial surprises.
Another reason that I am inexpensive is this. I hope to eventually pick up the marketing work for the site. Internet Marketing is my forte, and the bigger my client base is the more chance I have of getting the marketing contracts. It pays me to design for less.
CAN YOU PROVIDE SAMPLES OF YOUR WORK?
Of course, though I often wonder why it’s necessary given that I do the design BEFORE you pay for it.
I HAVE NEVER HAD A SITE, WHERE DO I START?
A chat is a good place to start. I know what to ask, so don't worry if technically you don't "Talk the Talk". I am more interested in finding out what you are hoping to achieve by having a site. Some people want sites to make money, others just feel embarrassed about telling clients they do not have a site, some want a site just for employees to use and so on. Once I know what you do and why you are considering a site, I can advise on what I would do if I were in your shoes. I am very honest in this respect.
I KEEP MEANING TO WRITE THE CONTENT BUT I'M TOO BUSY, CAN YOU HELP?
Very much so. If you are happy to write the text for the site, I will advise on alterations for free, should I feel that they are necessary. If you want me to write the content from scratch I will charge for it. I am not expensive however. If I write the content then it is essential that you make yourself available for regular discussions. I will need to ask many questions in order to totally understand what message we are trying to put across. Content authoring costs £20 hour.
CAN YO COME OUT TO MEET US?
I have no problem with visiting. If you are local to me I will visit without charging. if you are further afield, I have to charge but I am still likely to be less expensive for the project than firms that are more local to you. The truth is however that a visit is so unnecessary unless I am taking on the photographic work. I can create pages and put them onto the Internet for you to see. You can explain what you like and what you do not just as easily as if I were sat in front of you. Distance therefore is never a problem.
CAN YOU ADD A SHOP TO MY WEBSITE?
Of course. There are two kinds. An inexpensive shop uses buy now buttons. This will typically cost an additional £150-00 or so. A more expensive shop (featuring larger product range) can cost anything between £300 and £500 extra. The more products that are involved, the more expensive the facility becomes. Once it has been done however it is very inexpensive to maintain. I can often spread the payments on a shop deal.
ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL CHARGES TO CONSIDER?
It depends on whether or not you already have a domain name (Internet name) and web space. I do not profiteer from this so please don’t go out and buy a name before coming to me if you can help it as it complicates matters a tad. A .co.uk name costs only £6 for 2 years, (you must have it for at least 2 years) a .com is a tad more expensive. The space (where your site will live) costs £24 per annum.
CAN YOU TALK ME THROUGH THE PROCESS OF GETTING ONLINE?
Of course. Here goes:
Call me. An email is fine but a phone call is better. We will discuss your business, what it does, why a site would help and roughly what pages would be required. If neither of us have any idea, I will go online and check competitors sites, making notes of what categories they have used, and more importantly where I think their sites fail.
I will ask you if you have a company logo that you wish to retain. Some people want to keep their old logo's and company colours, others prefer a fresh start. I then make a draft page. The first thing to get right is the cosmetics. Before we even consider content we need to plan a design that you really like the look of. This will be a rough draft, but it will be close to how I imagine the page to eventually look. I will direct you to a temporary web address so that we can discuss what parts of my draft design you like and what parts you do not. I will re-design the page as many times as I need to to ensure that you are happy with the appearance. (I am not offendable, it is natural that design tastes often differ). Once you are happy I can move onto the next stage.
This is to add the other pages. (Unless you have gone for a one page site). I will forward a plan, clearly stating what pages I feel we need and what they will contain. When you have approved this I will create the pages and upload them. We will now have a working site, that contains everything apart from the text. This is when I invoice. I invoice now, because if it takes you forever to either send me the content or help me to create it, it won't matter as I have been paid. I will never keep you waiting however, this is always a one way issue.
Page by page I will add content and images. After each page I will request that you view and approve the changes until the final page has been completed.
After the last page has been done, I like to call my clients and view the site with them, reading through each page together. I always suggest that my clients view the page as if they were a potential customer. Have we stressed the benefits enough? Is the site easy to navigate? When we both agree that the site is in good shape it gets uploaded to your permanent space. You will now be online.
Depending on how much you want to be involved, (many people want us to manage the project totally for them) you can expect to spend anywhere between one hour and three hours on the entire task for a typical brochure site.
Thanks for visiting.
